Nathan Doyle who was born in Derby and plays for the Rams Academy was relieved of his Captaincy of the England team for tonight’s game by Mark Noble of West Ham.

Doyle had the ball in the net after just 12 minutes but the assistant and referee Jeff Winter ruled the diving header out for off-side. The Derby midfielder did start the scoring midway through the first half. It was another Rams player Lee Holmes who played a superb through ball for Mark Walton who beat the advancing keeper but was brought down for an England penalty. Nathan Doyle then stepped up to send Christopher Mollering in

Both Derby County players were involved in the second England goal just after the halftime break. A corner was taken by Rams striker Lee Holmes that was then flicked on by Nathan Doyle and Tyrone Berry headed the ball home.

England looked like gaining the 3 points they needed to finish in second place in the 4 nation competition but were disappointed by two fluky goals by Germany in the 54th and 79th minute. However the match was enjoyed by a crowd of around five and a half thousand fans at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light.
