Young Peruvian striker Gianfranco Labarthe Tome has had his Rams contract
cancelled by mutual consent.
The 20-year-old was George Burley's fourth signing during the summer of
2003, joining the club after a two-week trial and putting in impressive
performances in pre-season matches against Shrewsbury and Peterborough.
He made his only senior start for the Rams in last season's Coca-Cola Cup
defeat at Huddersfield. He has been a regular in the Rams reserves during
his 16 months with the club and joined the action as a second half
substitute during Tuesday night's 1-0 defeat by Tottenham at Pride Park
Stadium. His contract was due to expire next summer.
Gianfranco is a Peruvian under-20 international with an Italian passport who
previously played for the Sport Boys club in Peru. Gianfranco's father
Ernesto Labarthe is a former Peruvian international while his mother is of
Italian descent.
The striker made three appearances on a non-contract basis as a substitute
for Huddersfield before joining Derby.
He is expected to return to Peru next month and all at Derby County wish him
well for the future.
