Branko Strupar
and his Belgian comrades began their World Cup 2002 campaign with a 2-2 draw against co-hosts Japan.

Branko was not in the starting eleven but came on midway through the second half. The draw means that both teams are joint top of the group with Russia and Tunisia playing tomorrow (Wed 5th June).

Ex Rams Paulo Wanchope and Mauricio Solis where also in action today (Tue 4th June). Both men played for Costa Rica in the Gwanju stadium against China.

Solis had a clear chance early in the game as he raced clear on goal but a fine save from the keeper denied the midfielder. Paulo Wanchope had some nice touches of the ball but was unable to recreate the “wonder goal” he scored on his debut for the Rams at Old Trafford. The goal however was shown on the BBC's pre match coverage.
