Ritchie (27) has had fitness problems at Manchester City and a troublesome groin injury has kept him out of the Manchester side for some time.
With nine international caps and one international goal, the left footed Ritchie could add some strength to the Rams frail defence.
A successful loan spell this season with Portsmouth points again to a very good loan acquisition but only time will tell if Ritchie will give the Rams some stability in defence.
