clough and taylor book.JPGThere has been a lot written about Brian Clough and Peter Taylor and their successful years at various clubs, including Derby County.

Next month will see the release of another publication dedicated to the duo. This time however there is a subtle twist as the writer is the unsung third party in a team that rose to the heights of British football.

Maurice Edwards (83) a former coach and Chief scout at all of the clubs managed by the duo has written the 186 page 'Brian and Peter-A right pair- 21 years with Clough and Taylor' book.

The book traces the behind closed doors story of the Clough-Taylor relationship, as well as recalling some of the most memorable games played by Hartlepool's, Derby County, Brighton, Leeds United and Nottingham Forest.

The 21 year relationship that Maurice enjoyed with the duo started as a friendship with Peter Taylor . The pair met during their playing days at Burton Albion. Brian Clough comes into the relationship as a friend of Peter Taylor and a former Middlesbrough playing colleague of Brian before his fateful injury.

The book is a insight into Clough and Taylor and their jokes and more serious times in management. Maurice recalls an incident when Derby County visited Sheffield Wednesday. Edwards and Taylor entered Hillsborough before Brian had arrived in his Mercedes. They told the gate keeper not to let a guy who claimed to be Brian Clough and driving a Mercedes into the gated car-park, as he was an impostor that followed the team around claiming to be Clough. Brian was duly refused entry to the gated car-park and had to park a good way from the ground, returning red faced and fuming just two minutes before kick-off.

Deals for players are revealed for the first time in the book. One notable face that was nearly a Rams player was Graham Rix, who later went on to play 464 times for Arsenal and received 17 England Caps. Maurice was sent by Clough and Taylor to get the signature of the young Rix but was beaten by Arsenal.

The book is a must for all Derby County and Nottingham Forest fans and is well worth a read by fans of other teams, or the legend that was Brian Clough and Peter Taylor.
