A strong Derby County side finished fourth in their heat of the Masters at the Nottingham Arena this evening.
Although the Rams featured a number of players who had enjoyed top division football with the club they finished in last place thanks to defeats against Nottingham Forest and Leicester with a 0 – 0 against Notts County sandwiched in the middle.
Despite including Mark Lillis and Phil Gee amongst their squad goals was a constant problem with only two goals all night – one for Lillis against Forest in the 4-1 defeat and a cracker from David Penney as Derby lost 3 – 1 to Leicester.
For the record it was Leicester who emerged as eventual winners of the tournament with their prize a place in the national finals in September.
Derby squad: - Martyn Taylor, Simon Coleman, Mickey Lewis, Martyn Kuhl, Craig Ramage, David Penney, Kevin Francis, Mark Lillis, Phil Gee, Robin van der Laan.
