Derby County's desperate search for a striker to partner £1m misfit Steve Howard seems to have reached a new low today amid reports that the Rams are looking at Free agent Carl Asaba.

With all due respect to the 33 year-old striker he simply isn't the quality that the Rams must look for to put any sort of run together and take them clear of the relegation zone.

Asaba has been to several clubs in his career, the most expensive move being a £800,000 transfer from Colchester to Reading in 1998. He then moved on to Gillingham for £590,000 and stayed two and a half years before moving on to Sheffield United.

Latterly Asaba has had free transfer moves to Stoke and his last club Millwall where he played just 17 games last season.

Asaba could argue that he would be good for the Rams having scored 106 goals in 261 league appearances . Although he has never played at the highest level he may still have something to give the goal shy Rams.
