Three former directors of Derby County, plus two other people were appearing in court yesterday for a hearing and face charges of financial irregularities following a £15 loan from the Panamanian company ABC , when the men took over the club in 2003.

Judge Ian Alexander said at the hearing "The Crown's case is that these defendants have decided to feather their own nests and take some for themselves". "It's straightforward. Did the board authorise these people to charge themselves agreement fees and whether or not the defendants were honest or dishonest in doing so?"

The hearing in Northampton Crown Court was to decide if the accused would make ask for a dismissal of the charges. Andrew Mackenzie, Murdo Mackey and Jeremy Keith are all understood to be have made applications for dismissal of the case.
