Ex Rams defender appointed new director of football

Rod Thomas, ex Rams defender has been appointed as the new Rams director of football by club Chairman Lionel Pickering.

The 55-year-old Welshman had been a scout for Derby County as well as being involved in the 1974-75 Championship winning side under the management of Dave Mackay. Thomas was in fact Dave Mackays first signing for Derby County, the move coming after a succesful career at Swindon in which the crowning moment was Swindons 1969 League Cup final win over Arsenal. At 22 years of age Thomas was the youngest member of the squad at the Wembley final.
Rod also won 50 International caps for Wales during his career.

After his succesful footballing career Rod made a living as a pub landlord in Birdslip before turning his hand to the computer industry and software sales.
