Gary Charles retires after injury
Ex rams full back Gary Charles has been forced to quit football after a succession of injuries. His present knee injury was the last straw and Gary made the decision with his Doctors to give up his playing career.

At 32 Charles has seen many clubs most notably Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest, and Benfica before joining West Ham.

Charles has been plagued by injury since joining the Hammers and has only taken to the field for them on 6 occasions since his transfer there on the 5th October 1999.

His Rams career started on 29th July 1993 when the Rams paid Nottingham Forest £750,000 for the talented defender. His move came just two years after gaining two England caps. Charles made 77 first team appearances for the Rams but was sold to Aston Villa for £1,450,000 on 6th January 1995.

At Villa Park Gary experienced over 100 games for the Villains and had one of the most successful times of his career.
