Shaw tells Rams no talks
Preston North End's Chairman Derek Shaw may be the reason for the protracted search for a new manager at Pride Park. Shaw is reported to be refusing to let present North End manager Billy Davies enter into talks with the Rams.

Davies is said to be non too pleased at the Chairman's stance in barring him from negotiations. The Preston Chairman was contacted on Friday 26th May regarding talks with Davies and Chairman Shaw informed his manager of the interest from Derby County. He went on to ask his reaction to the news followed by the statement that he wouldn't be allowed to converse with Rams representatives. Davies was said to be very disappointed that he was not allowed to talk with the Rams and pointed out to his Chairman that talks do not mean he wanted to go to Pride Park.

Billy Davies dissapointed at not hearing what Rams have to say

Relationships between Davies and Chairman Shaw have been strained since a row over transfer cash erupted and the refusal to let Davies enter into talks has heightened the problems. Reports are that Davies and Shaw have not spoken to each other since the Friday incident .

If Derby County are given permission to talk with Davies and things go successfully Preston will be looking at a figure of £250,000 for Davies's contract, a figure the Rams are rumoured to be happy to meet.

Davies at 41 is one of the leagues up and coming managers, leading Preston to two successive Championship play-offs and beating Derby on the way to Cardiff in the 2004-2005 season
