Higginbotham had a shaky start at Pride Park following his transfer from Manchester United but has fought through the bad times to put in many sparkling performances this season.
The Rams unfortunate relegation takes some of the shine off the award for Higginbotham but he has won many admirers in the Premiership during this season, it now remains to be seen if Derby County can hold on to the talented 22 year old.
