Camp Backs James

Despite England's showing in Euro 2004 taking them past the group stages there is still a train of thought that suggests the squad has a defence way too pourous to go all the way.

The Rams young keeper has played for England Under 19s and is convinced that the negativity aimed at his countrymen is undeserved.

According to the young net minder, "you defend from the front and attack from the back in my eyes and everyone is responsible for preventing them going in"

"The crosses in the two set plays for the Croatian goals were as good as any you will see in the tournament."

"David James has had a lot said about him but he's in a no win situation. If he has a good tournament the critics will say it is because he has a good defence in front of him, and if he has a bad one they will say it is his fault."

"He has had one or two shaky moments but against that made a couple of very good saves against Croatia and looked dominant. His distribution has been excellent as well."

"I think he has clearly made himself Number One."
