Barnsley 1 Derby County 1

The Rams started today in the relegation places of the Championship and needed a good performance to restore confidence. A good start was important and was achieved with the help of defender Dean Leacock's fine headed goal in the 15th minute of the game.

With the Rams welcomed back talented midfielder Stephen Pearson back today and with players added in key positions on loan the afternoon looked to be going well for Derby. Barnsley however had other ideas and the Tykes came out for the second half with renewed vigour.

The second half was just minutes old when the Tykes pulled level. They continued to push and the Rams had their backs to the wall for periods in the second half. Derby to their credit kept fighting and indeed had chances to win all three points, Shefki Kuqi having the best with a one on one with the Barnsley keeper, his shot finishing disappointingly in the side netting.

With the game finishing all square, the Rams now move out of the relegation zone, being replaced by fellow East Midlanders Leicester City. Was this an improvement or is there still work to be done on the field at Derby County?..
