Darryl Powell has been hoping for a new contract since the start of the current season. He has been kept waiting and at times it has been a cruel way to repay a player that has given his all for Derby County since his arrival at the club.

Rumours are now surfacing that several clubs could be interested in taking Powell on a free transfer at the end of this season when his contract runs out with the Rams.
Leading the chase may be Powell's and Derby County's ex manager Jim Smith. The Bald Eagle, now assisting at Coventry City has said to expressed an interest in his ex captain. This may be good news for Powell as he was an ever present in Smiths first team whilst at Pride Park.

Other clubs expressing their willingness to have Powell on their books for next season is another one of his former clubs, this time Portsmouth.

Although there may be plenty of interest in securing Powells signiture, Rams boss John Gregory has stated that there may well be a place in his squad for Powell next season and has said it is now up to the player to decide his own future. It is unclear at present if Darryl has been offered a new contract.
