Powell not heading for Villa Park

Aston Villa's official site www.astonvilla.co.uk has dismissed claims that they are about to take Darryl Powell on after his contract with the Rams ran out at the end of last season.

The ex Rams Captain is however training with Aston Villa just to keep up his fitness for the coming season. Powell who has yet to pick which team he will start the season with is believed to be talking with Portsmouth and there may be a link to new Premiership boys Birmingham City.

Powell is believed to be wanting a Premiership move rather than going down a division. John Gregory offered Powell a years contract with the Rams but Powell did not take up the offer.
