Alan Stubbs hangs up his boots
Alan Stubbs the Rams centre back has had to retire from the game following a recurrence of a knee injury.

Stubbs who is 37 had just returned to the Rams squad after undergoing knee surgery during the summer to try and clear up a problem he had for a while. In the first game of the season Stubbs looked in obvious distress and was taken off during the first half of the game against Doncaster.

His decision to hang up his boots has come at a very bad time for the Rams. With Stubbs out of the playing staff it now remains for Martin Albrechtsen and Claude Davis to sort out the Rams central defence. Derby do have Lewis Nyatanga but he is currently sidelined with injury himself.

Derby may have to put on hold any decision on loaning or selling Dean Leacock, as he could fill the position in an emergency....
