Shackell had been an ever present for Barnsley last season playing 46 league games and two Cup games, but it seems the Rams injury jinx seems to have struck before a ball is kicked of the 2011-12 Championship season.
The injury is in the calf and hopefully is not serious enough to keep Shackell out of the team for long. With several defensive players out of Derby's opening games it may be just a precaution to get 27 year-old Shackell fit for the start of the season in August...
