It has been revealed that a second Derby County player has suffered a heart scare after a routine operation.

Jay McEveley, the Rams 24 year old defender had to undergo an operation to heal his fractured cheek bone.

The injury occurred during Derby County's away defeat to Middlesbrough on Tuesday October 20th. The operation took place two days later on the 22nd October and Jay's heart stopped during the operation for two minutes.

McEveley had undergone four previous operations involving full aesthetic before, with no ill effects, so it is a mystery why he had such an adverse reaction this time.

Jay was shocked when he woke in the intensive care section of the hospital and was told of the heart scare. He also revealed that after the impact that fractured his cheek bone he remembers having pain in his chest, rather than the obvious injury to his face.

Happily Jay is now over the incident and looks forward to possibly being involved in tomorrow nights action against Coventry at Pride Park. If he gets on the field he will have to wear a protective face mask to protect the injury.

Nigel Clough hopes that the injury jinx is now at an end and players will return to strengthen the Rams depleted squad in the coming weeks...
