Robins in for Nyatanga

Last updated : 14 July 2009 By Derby Mad reporter
nyatangaIt has been revealed that 20 year-old Welsh International defender Lewin Nyatanga is in talks with Bristol City, with a view to a half a million pound move.

Nyatanga has been in the mind of Nigel Clough for the first part of the new managers time at Pride Park. Lewin has started in 14 out of the last 15 games under Clough but is now thought to be surplus to requirements. This maybe a reaction from Clough after last seasons defensive frailties which saw the Rams lunge toward relegation trouble.

Lewin has also been on loan for a large part of the last two seasons, having three loan spells with Barnsley and one with Sunderland during that period. He has however played played 69 times for the Rams during his time with the club and has an impressive 130 league appearances to his name with all clubs. This is a very high number for a player who does not turn 21 until the 18th August.

If negotiations are successful today a fee of around £500,000 will be asked by Derby, which for a current International player of his age is exceedingly generous. There may however be a plan in letting Lewin go for this amount, as it would free up money to improve an offer for Blackpool's highly rated Shaun Barker...
