Derby County may again be preparing to raid the Croatian national team in a bid to bring some quality to the Rams squad for the Championship season.

Scouts will be at the Austria V Croatia Euro 2008 game in Vienna tonight at 5.00pm. It is thought that 30 year old Hrvoje Vejic may be looked at by the Rams scout. He is a defensive midfield player and has so far made just two appearances for his country and is currently playing for Tom Tomsk in the Croatian league whom he signed for in 2006 from Hajduk Split.

The Rams may be also be looking toward the Austrian side to provide them with cheaper alternatives.

Rams Chairman of football, Adam Pearson has said the club is looking for players down the spine of the team.

Stranz and Ivanschitz
Martin Stranz and Austrian Captain Andreas Ivanschitz warmmup at Euro 2008, could one or both be coming to Pride Park?
Attacking midfielder and Austrian Captain Andreas Ivanschitz (24) is a player with creative talents, some have seen him as the Austrian equivalent of David Beckham. Andreas also loves to get forward and attack. He is currently on loan at Greek club Panathoniakos, where he continues to score from midfield, putting away 9 goals in 53 appearances. His International record is just as impressive, scoring 5 goals in 31 appearances for the Austrian's.

Austrian striker Erwin Hoffer may also be on the shopping list for the Rams. The young Austrian has just turned 21 years of age but is highly rated playing at every level of International football from U17 level to the full Austrian national team.

Others to look out for tonight are Martin Stranz, currently playing his football at Spartak Moscow. Martin will be 28 next week but is a 6ft 3 inch central defender and has been attracting attention from Celtic among others and it may be hard for the Rams to compete for his signature given that Celtic will be playing European football next season and the Rams are in the second tier of English football.

So Rams fans around Europe and beyond should be taking interest in the Euro 2008 championships over the coming weeks. You may be watching players on their way to Pride Park...
