Derby County are said to be interested in taking former Scottish PFA young player of the year Derek Riordan. Twenty four year old Riordan won the honour in 2005, following on from current Rams midfielder Stephen Pearson.

Riordan is currently contracted to Celtic but has found it hard to hold down a position in the Celtic team, often not making the subs bench. He has however managed 4 goals in his 19 games or Celtic, who he signed for from Hibernian, this follows on from an impressive 54 goals in just 123 games for Hibs.

It is a mystery why the striker is finding it hard to fit in at Parkhead, as his services have been wanted by Rangers, who offered £450,000 on the final day of the January transfer window in 2006. Leicester City were also keen to bring him across the border, whilst a £1m move to Cardiff City was agreed at the end of the 2004-05 season but Riordan did not want to move to the Welsh club.

The Scot has also had International experience, coming on as a substitute against Austria in August 2005.

With Billy Davies's interest in bringing the cream of Scottish talent to Derby County , Riordan may be the 6th Scotsman to arrive at Pride Park since Billy Davies took over as manager....
