Glen Whelan a Rams target?
As the January transfer window comes into view, it is inevitable that many websites and newspapers will speculate on just who Paul Jewell is expecting to buy to try and help the Rams position at the foot of the Premiership.

The Rams opponents in the FA Cup, Sheffield Wednesday have provided the first speculative target in Glen Whelan. The 23 year old midfielder was thought to be interesting the Rams, with a possible player (Michael Johnson) cash deal for the Republic of Ireland player.

Further speculation concerning 29 year old Blackburn striker Jason Roberts has been laughed off by Jewell, although the striker has a good Premiership pedigree.

Rams manager Jewell has had Roberts under his wing before at Wigan, he joined the Latics in 2004 and stayed until the move to Blackburn in 2006. Roberts scored 37 goals for Wigan in 97 games.

Roberts was signed for Blackburn in a £3m deal but he has since found it hard to get a regular place in the side.
