Rams miss out on Bass Vase

A young and experimental Rams side took on Burton Albion last night in the final of the Bass Vase. Just over a thousand people watch at the Pirelli Stadium, as the two teams provided an entertaining match.

Burton fielded a more experienced team that the Rams, Derby actually sending on a 15 year-old Mason Bennett for the final half hour. Derby did have four players in the first team squad, Lee Croft, Tomasz Cywka, Theo Robinson and goalkeeper Adam Legzdins.

It was Burton who took the lead in the 30th minute when Greg Pearson scored from close range. This was the only goal of the first 4 minutes.

The Rams manged to level the game in the 9th minute when Alex Witham slotted home for Derby. The joy was short lived however as Calvin Zola popped up to score Burtons second and decisive goal in the 68th minute.

Derby also fielded former Notts County left back Nathan Fox during the game. Fox left Notts County at the end of last season and had been under the guidance of former Rams defender Michael Johnson at County. It is well known that the Rams are on the look out for a reliable left back...
