The Derby County could be planning to bring back 34 year-old ex Rams midfielder Lee Carsley. The Everton player is out of his contract with the Toffee's in the summer and it could be that Derby County see him as the influential player they need in midfield.

Manager Paul Jewell has promised the fans promotion but is not revealing just who and how much he will spend on the Derby County squad for next season and which players he hopes will turn the fortunes of the Rams around.

Fans are expecting big money signings but players with the qualities of Carsley may be a cheaper option, although if the club are serious about gaining promotion at the first attempt they will need a blend of youth and quality to avoid yet another nightmare season if promotion were to be achieved.

With Robbie Savage (34) and Eddie Lewis (34) already in the Rams squad the acquisition of Carsley could make the combined age of a three man midfield 102!. If you then look back at the defence, with Alan Stubbs at 36 Darren Moore at 35 (tomorrow), Andy Todd at 34, then we are beginning to look like Dads Army, the six players mentioned having a combined age of 208!

Let us hope that we can find a few teenage sensations to add to the experience over the summer...
