Paul Jewell becomes the next Rams manager
Paul Jewell has been appointed the new Manager of Derby County Football club. Despite bookies closing the book on bets for Paul Ince, the Rams and new Chairman Adam Pearson plumped for the Scouser who successfully took and kept Wigan into the Premiership.

Jewell is only 43, the same age as departing manager, Billy Davies and was a former a striker in his youth starting his apprenticeship with his home town club, Liverpool.

Despite being a talented striker he found it difficult at Liverpool, especially with legends Ian Rush and Kenny Dalglish in the first team squad.

Paul eventually went to Wigan, a team that he would eventually manage to their highest position in their football history. He scored 35 goals in 137 appearances for Wigan. He then moved on to Bradford City where he stopped for ten years, played 269 games and banged in 56 goals. His final club was a loan deal with Grimsby in 1995.

His coaching life began back at Bradford City he finally became their Manager in 1998 and promptly took the Bantams to the Premiership. He managed Sheffield Wednesday for a season before taking up the mangers position with Wigan. Wigan provided Paul with his second success and took them to the Premiership, the second time he had taken a unfashionable side to the top of the English game. Paul had six seasons with Wigan before leaving them after securing their Premiership survival at the end of the 2006-07 season. His reason for leaving were that he was physically and mentally drained.
