Rams fans in despair

Rob Earnshaws premiership record of one goal in every three games not enough, so the hacks say!
It's a wonder Derby County fans aren't jumping from buildings or throwing themselves under the 9.30am express to London if they believed all the reports and reviews of the 2007-08 season.

Before a ball is kicked the hacks have condemned the Rams to a season of humiliation and defeat. Nearly every national paper has talked down to Billy Davies and his team and ridiculed Rams supporters for simply supporting a team which they think will not survive in the Premiership.

Well I can remember just such a tirade of uneducated clap trap when Derby County first rose to the Premiership. "They will not survive, they will be down by Christmas, they just can't compete at the top" were a few of the snide remarks in the tabloids and other media.

I wonder if any of them took the time to recall that Derby County spent six seasons in the top flight during their first period in the Premiership.

Detractors have raised several items that you won't hear in the Premiership this season, one of which was "Derby County on the Edge of a European place". Wonder if they remember the 1998-99 season? Hope so, because Derby County just missed out on European football, finishing just two points away from Liverpool in eighth place.

Hopefully Billy Davies and his men will have the last laugh this season and all the hacks, commentators and ex-footballers who think they know everything about the game will be eating their words.

In the words of George Burley, "It'll be hard, it'll be tough" but we all know Derby County and its players will give their all and stay in the Premier League this season.
