Rams confident of new keeper in by the weekend

By Rams Mad Editor
Thursday, 11th March 2010
Nigel Clough and his team are on the look out for a new goalkeeper following last nights incidents
Saul Deeney
Saul Deeney on the field for just 28 minutes before receiving a straight red card. He now starts an automatic two match ban and leaves Nigel Clough looking for replacement keeper as Rams number one Stephen Bywater is out with a back injury.
Derby County had two goalkeepers side-lined last night for differing reasons and now find themselves struggling to find a goal stopper for Saturday. Rams manager Nigel Clough is however confident an emergency loan can be arranged for the weekend.

Rams number one keeper, Stephen Bywater had been suffering from a back problem before last nights game against Reading and after just 13 minutes his back ceased up and he had to be replaced by former Burton Albion keeper Saul Deeney (27). Deeney had been waiting for his chance to play for the first team and was doing well, with the Rams levelling the game at 1-1.
It was not until the 41st minutes before things started going wrong for the Rams and Deeney. Jay Tab, the Reading midfielder was clear through on goal before Deeney took him out of the play. Being the last man it was clear deeney had to receive the red card.

Nigel Clough had no worries on the legitamacy of the penalty award but was surprised Deeney received the straight red, as the ball was not in a position for it to be easily scored.

With both keepers now out of the game it was down to Robbie Savage to pull on the goalkeepers shirt. His first duty was to see the penalty kick for the offence skied over his bar. Savage did well with a few good saves but it was inevitable Reading would go on to win and put a further two goals past Savage.

Nigel Clough was staright on the trail of a replacement keeper during the half time interval and he is now confident in having one before Saturday's away trip to Doncaster Rovers...
