Rams bid for striker rejected

C:WindowsTempphpA3DE.tmpWith the season nearly upon us Gary Rowett continues in his search to strengthen the Rams squad ahead of Friday's opening Championship match.

Rowett's target this time was Leicester City forward Tom Lawrence but an initial £7m bid has been rejected by the Foxes.

Lawrence is of interest to Derby as he can play a wide range of attacking positions including down each wing, an attacking midfielder or striker.

At just 23 years of age Lawrence also has time to develop and the rejection of a permanent move is puzzling as he has been out on a season long loan last season with Ipswich  Town, playing 36 times and scoring 11 goals and has only made 3 first team appearances for Leicester City.

Lawrences contract finishes at the end of the coming season and interest by newly promoted Brighton and Hove Albion may see Leicester open up a bidding war for the player. This is something Rowett has said he willnot get into and feels Derby have offered a fair price for the Welsh International.

It is not clear at this point if Derby County will be persuing Lawrence further but remains a top target.
