The game was ill tempered in parts and the first incident came when Jay McEveley committed a foul for which it was thought a yellow was lenient. An incident minutes later saw an off the ball collision between McEveley and a Swansea player. The incident seemed to be accidental but the referee thought otherwise and gave McEveley a second yellow card followed by the red. Jay was rightly incensed by the sending off and remonstrated with an assistant referee, followed by a petulant kicking of several water bottles before heading for the dressing room. Insult was added to injury when the resulting free kick for the incident led to the only goal of the game for Swansea.

The game moved on but tempers were still in riding high. The flash point came when Swansea substitute Gorka Pintado, only on the pitch for nine minutes scythed down Robbie Savage from behind. The foul prompted Savage to claim later that it was a career ending tackle. Players came to Savages aid and the ensuing pushing and shoving had to be sorted out by Police and Stewards, as well as all the officials.
Surprisingly no-one was booked or sent off in the incident apart from Pintado.
Both Derby County and Swansea have been charged with failure to control their players and have until March 9th to answer the charges...
