The Rams must strengthen at the back is the message coming out of Pride Park as they travel to Sheffield Wednesday hoping not to ship four goals again.

Derby have conceded eight goals in the last two away games and manager Nigel Clough does not have the playing staff needed to do much about the problem.

Both Clough and coach Gary Crosby have been well aware of the Rams defensive frailties since arriving at the club but with the Rams only six points above the relegation zone it is imperative they get the central defensive partnership right and give those players the support and guidance that will ensure the goals against column doesn't grow and the Rams get the points needed for Championship survival.

Derby will take a squad of 17 to Sheffield today and with Wednesday comfortably mid table and nothing to really play for, it is hoped the Rams can catch them in a giving mood and can come away from Hillsborough with at least a point.

The Rams hope to have Kris Commons in from the start for this game, his influence and loss due to injury has been a major reason for the Rams alarming downturn in form during last month. If he does start the game it will mean Robbie Savage or John Eustace will have to make way, although the player left out could expect to make a contribution at some point during the afternoon...
