Macken scores a brace in the Rams romp over Ilkeston
Derby County started their pre-season campaign with a resounding win over local side Ilkeston Town before a crowd of 1185.

The Rams dominated the first half with a powerful team made up of first tam and Academy youngsters. The Rams took just nine minutes to find the Ilkeston Net, Macken scoring the first of two goals in the afternoon. Derby had Teale in attack to partner Macken and he duly obliged with the second goal after half an hour, with Macken adding his second just 3 minutes later.

The Rams were now in complete control of the game and it was unfortunate for Ilkeston that Featherstone scored an own goal just before the interval to make the score 0-4 to the Derby County.

Billy Davies and assistant David Kelly were both in attendance at the match, making notes and taking a look at what certain players can do for Derby County in the Premiership. There were some strange positional changes to established and Academy players, with Mo Camara, usually left back playing in the left midfield area and Academy player Jason Beardsley taking the right midfield role rather than his usual right back position.

The second half was a tame affair compared to the first half rampage of the Rams. With the game won Derby made sweeping changes on the hour after the linesman (assistant referee) had major problem with his flag (don't they always?). The Rams brought on several Academy players in exchange for Camp (Keane), McEverley, (Meredith) Leacock,(Addison) Camara, (Amory) Pearson, (Booth) Teale (Mills) and Macken (Ujcik).

Bob Malcolm

The changes seemed to unsettle Derby and in the 68th minute Ilkeston were awarded a penalty as Meredith was accused of bringing down Carruthers. Dougie Wade put away the resulting spot kick. The Rams had the final word however with Central midfielder Bob Malcolm stroking the ball home with just 3 minutes left on the clock.

So a resounding win for the Rams with a side that still has many of the recent multi million signing to come in.
