Paulo Wanchope retires due to many injury problems
Costa Rican International Paulo Wanchope has had to retire because of persistant injuries.

Thirty one year-old Wanchope was a sensation whilst playing for the Rams. He joined the club in 1996 and left for West Ham in 1999. Along the way he scored many amazing goals, probably his most famous was the run from half way during the Manchester United v Rams game.

His three years with Derby saw him play 83 times and score 28 goals. He used to amaze TV pundit Alan Hanson with his long ungainly legs and footwork whilst on the ball.

Internationally he played 72 times for his country and put the ball in the net on 45 occasions.

Wanchope was one of the outstanding talents and characters of the last decade and it was a pleasure and a privilage to have seen him play. All at Derby County Mad wish him well in his retirement...
