Derby County Old Boy, Dexter Blackstock did the Rams a huge favour tonight by scoring the only goal in the game between QPR and Preston.

Blackstocks strike in the 51st minute takes QPR up to 20th in the league and eases their fear of relegation slightly. The London club are now four points clear of the relegation zone.

Preston had high hopes of closing the gap between themselves Derby County at the top of the league but despite the defeat they stay in fourth position on 68 points. The gap between Preston and the Rams stays at 8 points and it now looks a huge task for them to gain automatic promotion. Derby meanwhile still top the league with 76 points.

Although the Championship race is far from over, it does now seem that it is a clear three horse race for the two automatic promotion places between Derby County, Birmingham City and Sunderland.
