Robbie Elliott has turned down a loan move to Derby County. Magpie’s boss Bobby Robson agreed the one-month loan, with a view to a permanent deal but Elliott had other ideas.

Robbie told John Gregory and the club “Thanks but no thanks”. The full back prefers to stay at Saint James’s Park and fight for his place in the Newcastle side rather than drop a division and the promise of first team football.

Derby County are now looking to rebuild their defensive capabilities after recent departures and the lifting of an FA embargo on transfers into the club.
