Derby County's talented but injury prone midfielder, Giles Barnes has come through the operation on his knee cap and is expected to return to Derby early next week.

This part of Barnes recovery has gone well after Doctor Steadman performed the operation but the signs are he may well need a second operation to clear things up completely. This may well rule Barnes out of the start of next season.

Barnes broke his foot in the Rams play-off final with West Brom and has struggled with niggling injuries throughout last season.

He is still highly thought of by Rams manager Paul Jewell but he must get the best out of his squad next season and may be tempted to cash in on the talents of Barnes in order to strengthen his squad for the challenge of re-gaining Premiership status for the Rams.
