giles barnesDerby County have announced that Giles Barnes will be having an operation to put right the ruptured Achilles tendon he injured during the final minutes of Saturday's pre-season friendly against Stoke City.

Barnes has been plagued by injury over the last two seasons. He sustained a broken foot in the Wembley play-off final against WBA which kept him side-lined for two months.

Following the foot injury Barnes then sustained a serious knee injury which saw him out of the game for a further 10 months.

All seemed well until the weekend with Barnes when he sustain the latest injury, a ruptured achilles tendon. Giles will now be operated on today (Wednesday) in Oswestry, Shropshire.

A spokeman for Derby County would not speculate on how long Barnes will be out of action this time but has stated that he could be sidelined for a "lengthy period"...
