Rams go for Hatters Boss

Mike Newell will he be the new Rams manager?
Reports that Mike Newell has been approached to be the next Derby County Manager have surfaced this week. Newell who is one of the youngest managers in the Championship at 41 did a splendid job in guiding Luton Town to the Championship during his first year in charge and taking them to tenth in this seasons Championship season.

Luton had replaced popular manager Joe Kinear and ex-Rams striker Mick Harford with Newell and he was widely regarded as a puppet put in charge by then Chairman John Gurney. Newell however showed he was his own man and gained respect and admiration from the Luton faithful after guiding them to promotion in his first season in charge.

Newell is no stranger to success after his first league appointment resulted in him taking the league two side to promotion, again in his first season in charge (2002-03). Newell also knows and speaks his mind and was at the centre of a claim that bungs were rife in the Championship in January of this year.

Newell proven and succesful manager
The Rams may well be looking at a very good manager in Mick Newell. His vast experience as a player will be an invaluable asset. He has been at thirteen clubs during his playing career, making 530 league appearances and scoring 120 goals in that period.

One of Mr Newell's proudest and impressive moments came in the 1995-96 Champions league match against Rosenburg. Newell scored the fastest every hatrick in that elite competition, his three goals were scored in a breath taking nine minutes.
