David Preece dies at just 44 years of age
Ex-Derby County left sided midfielder David Preece has died at the age of just 44.

David was part of the Derby County side that gained promotion to the Premiership for the first time back in 1995-96 season. Preece joined the Rams to give a bit of bite in midfield but the left footed player only stayed in the side for three months and was then loaned out.

Preece was a legend with Luton Town who he was with for eleven years. Luton were then in the First Division (now Premiership) and David made 394 senior appearances for the Hatters and played in the 1987-88 League Cup winning side that beat Arsenal at Wembley.

His death on Friday 20th July 2007 came after having suffering and apparently beaten throat cancer.

David was once described as a budding Archie Gemmill and although only with the Rams a short while, this is a man will be sadly missed by all in football
